Available Science Time and Orientation Tool

Note: The tool reports results for the Cycle 15 timeframe (July 2006 - December 2007). If you need to check schedulability for the Cycle 14 timeframe (e.g. you are submitting a DD proposal), then you can either use APT to check schedulability, or you can send an email to help@stsci.edu with your target coordinates, and we will email you the plots and tables.

This tool returns three plots (and tabular views of the data) showing available orientations and science times throughout the year for two gyro operations at five degree intervals on the sky. These plots are:

  1. Orientation versus month. This plot can be used to check when a particular orientation (roll angle) is available in Cycle 15 or the first half of Cycle 16 (1-Jul-2006 to 31-Dec-2007).
  2. Number of days versus orientation. This plot can be used to assess how many days in Cycle 15 an orientation is avaliable.
  3. Visibility versus month. This plot shows the amount of unocculted observing time available during Cycle 15 and the first half of Cycle 16 (1-Jul-2006 to 31-Dec-2007).

Some background on scheduling observations in two-gyro mode, a detailed description of the content of these plots, and some examples of how to use them can be found in Chapter 2 (link) of the HST Two-Gyro Handbook. This information is based upon preliminary estimates for scheduling of two-gyro observations. It may be updated based on on-orbit experience.

The plots closest to the RA and Dec you enter will be displayed.
