Introduction

STIS provides additional available-but-unsupported capabilities beyond those which will be routinely supported. Chapter 2 in the STIS Instrument Handbook describes the distinction between supported and available-but-unsupported modes, and the policy with regard to the use of available-but-unsupported modes.

This appendix to the STIS Instrument Handbook provides information about the additional available-but-unsupported capabilities of STIS. Since all of the imaging capabilities are supported, it contains information relevant to spectroscopic operations only. Briefly, these comprise the use of numerous additional entrance slits or apertures beyond those which are currently supported, and a very few central wavelength settings which have been removed from the set of supported setting due to difficulties with the settings (e.g., order overlap).
